Mindful eating.

Earlier this week I was speaking with a friend/mentor of mine and she spoke of a fairly new practice for her. Eating mindfully. Meaning. "BE-ing" with your food. No distractions, unplugging from television, cell phones, electronics, and books.

How often do we allow ourselves to simply "be" while taking in nourishment? I know, for myself, I'm usually reading a book/article, watching a show, and/or on my electronic device (laptop/tablet/iPhone), often on social media. I cannot think of a time I simply dined by myself without some form of electronic or reading material.

I found this interesting and decided to give it a go today. I mean, how hard could it be, right?!? I was solo in a local cafe, upon receiving my food, I took the included photo, then mad a cognizant effort to simply be with my meal and observe anything that bubbled up and the diners around me.

It was a different experience for me. After thanking my food and beverage, I commenced to eating with the exercise in mind.

I noticed that a few times it took effort to NOT pick up my iPhone. As thoughts came to my mind, I chose to sit with them and pay attention to how that felt, there was a slight nagging in those moments to pick up my phone, share via text or Facebook my experience. It was an awakening of sorts of how "dependent" and "attached" I'd become to my phone and my practiced way of being, a push to read something, or text my friends.

I made note of my meal, the texture, and taste and as time passed the nagging in my head became less urgent and "loud."
It was definitely still there though.

Very interesting observation about myself, and now intend to make this a regular practice.

Mindful eating. I'm curious to see what will transpire as I begin to do this more often.

There are at least TWO ways!!!

One of my very wise instructors from The Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly Tai Sophia) help to bring to light how we can choose to view things. This is a practice in recognizing opportunity and possibility. It is also a practice in choice. How often do we get caught up in whatever story we are creating in our minds?!? Sometimes we allow these stories to paralyze us. We are the editors of our story. Every moment in the choices we make and the language we choose.

What story are you creating?!?

Ultimate Evil

It's been quite the hiatus since my last entry! Well, I'm back and intend to begin again.

Last night I was watching Nazis: Ultimate Evil on the History 2 channel (I love these types of shows and documentaries). How is it so many people so blindly followed along? It amazes me quite frankly. I understand how it can happen especially considering that was before the day and age of the internet with the use of fear mongering and brute force. Which segued into me thinking about how the internet and media is both a blessing and not so much. The media has such control over the "people" that with the media and the internet and scare tactics, it truly is quite simple to have tyranny and government control take over a country quite easily (it's happening now). <- yes. That is a RIDICULOUSLY long run-on sentence

My point being the Nazis aren't the only ones there to blame. You must also look to the people who stood idly by and said nothing, trusting the new regime, or looking the other way. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Watch how much control you give to your government and the establishments that have bought them. The average person in the US is blind to the undercurrents that are happening as I type this. Personal liberties are constantly stripped away. Watch the legislation and mandates you so eagerly embrace. Where do you draw the line? Honestly, do you have a line? Because, from where I'm standing so many of them are blurred for so many folks I know and come in contact with. Perhaps we should learn something from history. REAL history, not the glossed over crap taught in school or shown on conventional media outlets. Begin to wake up and pay attention to the fodder that is being spoon fed and gobbled up so eagerly. Speak out. Don't just stand by silently. Perhaps you think the things going (legislations about : gun rights, women's bodies, mandating medical procedures, ect) are "for the greater good" and perhaps you don't think it will affect you later. Maybe, maybe not… And when they do come for you and something you hold dear, hope there is someone, like me, who WILL speak up and speak out.

First They Came ~ Pastor Niemoller

First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Dancing with discord

We are all beginners and our practiced way of being is to blame.
· "You made me angry "
· "you pissed me off"
· "you hurt my feelings"
· "you made me sad"

We take this on when in fact it is US that ultimately controls how we want to be and react in the presence of this. Remember for every 1 finger we point at someone, there are at least 3 pointing back to ourselves.

This isn't to say that sometimes choosing anger/sadness/angst doesn't serve. There are instances when it does. The key is to recognize the difference. And to notice what occurs in your body during upset. Then you can control it and it is choice. This also takes you out of "victimhood."

Now for me, in most situations, the upset doesn't truly affect my body. Meaning inside I am calm. Upset leads to dis-ease. It begins emotionally and when not addressed will manifest physically.

Hence why when I have feelings of being bajiggidy it is unsettling to me and a call and reminder that I must regroup and ground my self and my energy. I must decide how I choose to dance with discord.

Thoughts?

Create a BEAUTIFUL day!!

The body is AMAZING!!

I am an itchy, itchy GIRL!!! Like a snake…. Peeling away….  My latest "pièce de résistance" … work of "art" is healing…. Yayyyy!! Yayyyy!!! Which brings my current "WOW" moment to mind… The body's AMAZING ability to heal itself.. it's innate "wisdom" and the equally AMAZING talents of our skin!! How it constantly heals itself… like magic! It's MAGICAL I tell you!! Seriously! I have so many knicks, abrasions, scars, bruises, rope burns, gashes, the list goes on that I have done to myself and continue to do to myself and still I heal… the burns-> harden-> sheds-> disappears… the laceration in my skin seals itself closed… How AWESOME IS THAT?!?!? Like SERIOUSLY AWESOME!!! Guys! Take a moment… check out your body, your skin.. and express gratitude! I'm a rough and tumble chick.. always jumping head first into things… I know I'm in AWE over the MAGICAL healing and wisdom my body has!!

And here's a lil tidbit since this whole thought began with an itch, from my tattoo………

The skin has two layers, the top layer is the epidermis which does constantly shed and regenerate, and the dermis underneath, which is mostly collagen and elastin, and gives our skin its resilience. Tattooing has been around for a long time and in some cultures is considered to give beauty or is a mark of distinction. The ink from tattooing is deposited in the dermis layer which becomes permanent although it does fade a little with age. The only way to remove a tattoo is to destroy the dermis by dermabrasion or laser, or surgically cut it out.

Obesity a disease??

I'm going to go with a stance that may be "unpopular" here.  It is RIDICULOUS to label obesity as a "disease." Here's another way for the AMA (and branches of the fed) to step in, and control, not to mention, a coup for the pharma industry because now, guess what?? Yep... more drugs can be created and approved to "treat" this disease... I have an idea.. how about nutrition and exercise.. And I'm not talking about the "food" that is constantly being peddled on TV or at a drive thru.. I'm talking about REAL food... food that is actually GOOD for you.. Nutrition. The foundation of wellness and thriving health.  This means food that is NOT processed, in a box, or genetically engineered and modified.  Why isn't the AMA looking at that? Looking at the changes over the last 15-20 years.. How our "food" has changed and is being changed, the amount of toxins that are constantly leeched into our environment, the amount of toxins that are constantly being ingested and injected? How about starting there? Taking a critical look and THINKING prevention? Sorry to break it to you folks. Not everything can be "fixed" with a "magic" pill.... sometimes it's important to read the ingredients.. and maybe take a walk every now and then... get plenty of water, sunshine, fresh air, and activity (exercise). Clear the mind. Get some sleep. Engage yourself physically and mentally. Eat REAL food!! Chew on that!!
